While panto season has just begun, one thing is for certain Cannock will likely be panto-less for many years to come.
It was a couple of months ago when despite a raucous council meeting, Cannock Chase Council ordered for the currently lifeless Prince of Wales Theatre to not be given to a local community group who was created to preserve the building.
Today, the council moves forwards with its plans to rid the town of its only live cultural venue. Favoring instead, to add the site, in addition to its council chambers to an existing plot of land in the town centre that is currently earmarked with development.
The council says a cultural provision will be at the centre of its thinking for the future of the town centre. However, with no substance, just a snappy slogan those words will give little assurance assurances to the thousands who have spoken out against Cannock losing a critical cultural asset.
While the green light has been given to proceed with the demolition of the theatre, it must first pass a planning application in the coming weeks or months.
